How to Give Your Stroller a Spring Tune-Up

tuneup

Has your stroller taken a beating this winter? Are you hearing squeaks, seeing scuffs or are your tires losing air? You can give your stroller a tune-up and have it working (and looking) just like new! Here are a few tips from our stroller experts:

Clean it up. Give your stroller frame and wheels a good hose-down to clean off winter salt and sand debris. Vacuum out the seat with a handheld vacuum or shopvac.

Lube it up. Lubricate the wheels with WD-40 . If possible, remove the wheels and clean/lubricate the axle joints.

Pump it up. For strollers with air-filled tires, check the tire air pressure and if necessary, fill tires to the correct PSI (pounds per square inch) as indicated in the owner’s manual. If they keep losing air you can get a replacement inner tube at your local bike shop.

Fix it up. Damaged stroller? Replacement parts such as new seat fabric, canopies, straps and wheels are often available from the manufacturer. Check the details of your warranty on the manufacturer’s website. To prevent damage while traveling (especially airline travel), use a stroller travel bag and gate check your stroller whenever possible. Tip: stuff the stroller bag with extra diapers, beach towels and jackets to add padding. If you have an UPPAbaby stroller, check out their TravelSafe program. Purchase an UPPAbaby travel bag and register it on their site — any damage caused to your stroller during  air travel is fully covered by UPPAbaby.

Shine it up. Use a steam cleaner to wash the fabric seat and canopy, or scrub with mild detergent and scrub brush. Use a “magic eraser” sponge on the aluminum stroller frame to remove scuffs and scrapes.

WOLFBERG-FragileBeginnings.jpg

We’ve read the statistics: 1 in 8 babies is born prematurely; however, numbers can leave us numb.
