Food for Thoughtful Parenting: A little book of lists (Win a copy!)

One of the newest additions to the Isis book collection is food for thoughtful parenting by Nina Coslov and Tara Keppler. This small book is full of easy-to-read lists of insightful advice on parenting topics from playtime to bedtime. I have fallen in love with it’s simple style. Here’s why!

1. The lists. Short, sweet and to the point. For those of you who already have kiddos running around, you can easily browse through one of these lists in the few minutes you find here and there. Enjoy a sneak peek at one of the lists here.

2. Relatable. You can find a list for almost anyone – the expectant mom and dad, the frazzled parent, or the caregivers of children young and old. There are plenty of great ideas for when your brain is essentially mush (see Five Toys that Aren’t, one of my personal favorites).

3. Attainable. As easy a read as the book is, the actions inspired by it are the same way.

4. Humorous. I guarantee that at least one of the lists or anecdotes will make you laugh out loud.

5. Truly Thoughtful. At first, I thought of it only as a great gift. However, I now see the tremendous value in having my very own copy. I keep it out front and center as a reminder to be a thoughtful parent. When I see the bright white cover with its bold writing, I stop to think about what I’m doing and how I’m interacting with my kids in that moment. I can quickly pick out a fresh idea if needed to help me be the kind of parent I want to be.

Have I peaked your interest in this little book?  We are giving away three copies–just leave a comment on this blog to enter (see below for details).  I can only hope that food for thoughtful parenting will inspire everyone else who picks it up to be the most thoughtful parent they can be.

What a great giveaway! I’m really interested in the book — particularly the advice on mealtimes and getting out. It was easy to take my son places when he was very little because he slept through it, but now that he’s passed the two-month mark, he gets a little overwhelmed and cranky.

I’m always on the lookout for any book on advice on parenting. I need all the help I can get. If it has handy lists, even better for my cluttered brain to remember.

I’m a total list-maker, so I can really relate to this book. I love the idea from the sneak-peek about creating our own rituals. I want to try that!

I read this quote by Jesse Jackson that really resonated with me: “Your children need your presence more than your presents.” and am trying to use this as a mantra for parenting my 14-month old. This book sounds like it would be a good accompaniment to what my husband and I are already trying to focus on. I hope I’m considered for one of the books. Thank you.
