Blogger Kami Lewis Levin was in our center the week before Christmas looking for a great baby gift. We recommended the Oshi Mat and she was delighted. So delighted, she wrote a guest product review for us! Read on for a smart and funny write-up for one of our favorite new products.
If I were just under 2 feet tall, hung around on the floor quite a bit, and drooled, I’d totally want an Oshi Mat. Have you seen these things? They’re brilliant. I recently bought two of them from Isis as baby gifts and I would’ve bought one for my babies as well, until I remembered that my babies are 2 and 4 years old. The Oshi mat is for actual, pre-mobile babies. Not for small children whom I insist on referring to as babies…but had I had one for my actual pre-mobile babies, I’m pretty sure I would have used it. All. The. Time.
It’s kinda like a yoga mat that was cut in half, but it’s much cushier. It comes in several very hip, modern designs (I’m partial to the giraffe print but the helicopters are way cool too) and it’s accompanied by a little carrying case so you can take it with you to the park, a friend’s place or simply from upstairs to downstairs.
Ok, here are all the ways the Oshi Mat rocks:
1. It’s a nice, easy to clean, comfy play space for wee ones.
2. It’s way better than a baby blanket. Blankets get all twisted and dirty on the floor. The Oshi Mat stays still. Even if the baby moves around like a crazy person.
3. You can also use it to change a diaper on. I used my hardwood floors. The Oshi Mat is MUCH more comfortable.
4. Once your baby starts to sit up, the Oshi Mat offers a soft surface for those times when his/her head becomes a bit too heavy…
5. When your baby grows bored of the toys s/he’s playing with, the design of the mat becomes really interesting to them.
6. It’s super portable and weighs nothing.
7. It’s perfect for tummy time. And toe-discovery time. And fist-eating time. And staring-at-the-wall time.
8. And when your baby gets bigger, it’ll be perfect for freeze-dance. And tea parties. And playdough picnics in the kitchen.
9. And when your baby gets even bigger than that, it’ll be perfect for practicing downward dog on.
10. It’s hip, smart, urban design will instantaneously make your baby cool.
I totally wish it had been around 5 years ago, but alas, I’ll have to live vicariously through you people. Go buy one. Now. Your kid’s street cred will go through the roof.

It is amazing the products that they have out now. I would have loved to have this product when my kids were little. If nothing else but for use in all the dirty bathrooms that have broken changing tables and nasty floors. It is nice that it is so easy to keep wiped down and clean. Great idea!
